Happy Monday Grade 2's. We are in the home stretch! It is so hard to believe it is mid June and the weather this week looks phenomenal. It is a special week this week...... Father's Day is Sunday. We have a special activity related to our poetry unit for you but remember to do something special with your Dad, Step-dad, Grandpa, favourite Uncle or special person on Sunday.
We continue to be so proud of all of our students through our distance learning time. We recognize it is not easy to keep up the momentum of work when our routines are so different. We had no idea when we broke for the March break that we would not be returning for the remainder of this school this year.
You were asked to check your emails last Friday, June 5th for a scheduled time and instructions for retrieving your child’s personal belongings from the school. We have already gathered what we could and have left your child’s personal items labelled and on their desks. Any unmarked indoor shoes have been left above your child’s cubby area. **Please double check your google meet times this week. ** We have updated our Learning at Home slides for this week. Please continue to send pictures of student work to your teacher’s email if you are able. docs.google.com/presentation/d/1xlFQC2jIKcX7VmxTLVxlWmL3pZBe9YQ82N0kxq4A-OE/edit?usp=sharing Here is the link to the printables (printing is optional and only for families who prefer this method): docs.google.com/document/d/10i10KoRBsLQ2spsbkqEWcacmYmEBqq1wvqnphNmc1W4/edit?usp=sharing For this week’s Google Meet, we will be sharing designs we make with different shapes and colours and how these designs represent stories from our lives. The children are asked to read/listen to the story, “Sharing Our Stories” by Melissa Purcell. We hope that this story, as well as our work on symmetry will inspire creative and meaningful designs that depict stories from the children’s experiences. Please check your email for the link to your class Google Meet. Google Meet Schedule: Ms. Dinardo - Wednesday @ 10:00 AM Ms. Potvin - Wednesday @ 11:00 AM Mrs. Coulas - Wednesday @ 12:00 pm Mrs. Corrigan - Wednesday @ 1:00 pm Have a wonderful week, and continue to enjoy the time with your families. We miss you very much! The Grade 2 Teachers We hope that everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather again this weekend. Last week we found out that schools will not open back up this year. Each child has their own unique strengths and areas of need. Please know that making any needed “accommodations” for your child is encouraged. Accommodations may take many forms, but here are some suggestions: For a child who struggles with reading: If the goal is to practice decoding skills then an accommodation might be for a student to do the reading but do less of it. If the goal is to synthesize information, an accommodation might be to have the information read to a student and then have them synthesize it. For a child who struggles with writing: An accomodation could involve scribing, or “fill in the blank” answers instead of full sentence answers if the goal of the learning is to express knowledge or understanding of a certain topic (for example in a math question or Science question). If the goal of an assignment is to become better at the writing process then an accommodation might involve support with the brainstorming phase, the structure or organization of the writing form (providing a graphic organizer to help organize thoughts), providing a list of words that might be used to support spelling, or to limit the amount written. For students who struggle with math activities: Accommodations might include “`chunking” the amount of work a child sees on a given page, or is required to do on a given page, supporting understanding with objects, a number line, a hundreds chart, or other visuals, limiting the number of questions a child is required to complete, or scribing written answers. Please let us know if you have any questions/concerns. Have a great week! The Grade 2 Teachers Happy Monday Grade Two's it is hard to believe we are now in our third week of learning at home.
